Entry level or mid range, I don’t want to break the bank as it probably won’t get used much but I don’t want to get straight trash either. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not discounted currently (I’m not convinced BF/CM aren’t all fake), but I recently got a Sovol SV06 for ~$209 from Amazon and had seen it at that price for several months, so it’ll probably come back down again.

I had one minor issue but the troubleshooting video on the Amazon page showed me how to fix it, and it’s been printing like a champ with no issues so far. FDM printer (i.e., not resin) with an all metal hotend so it can handle more exotic/stronger filament types. The auto bed leveling is also super great, most Enders don’t come with that and from what I’ve heard bed leveling is a bitch.

Also it’s been my only 3D printer ever so I don’t have much of a reference point except the ones we had in university that were almost always broken. (Or at the least unlevel)

Thanks, that’s about what price I had in mind. It’s been awhile since I’ve priced them so I’m happy to see decent ones under $200.

I’m not sure. I’m starting from zero so either? I’m pretty technically inclined but I’m hoping it’s easy enough to keep my teenaged daughter interested, if that makes a difference.

SLA is nice and you can make intricate figurines but it’s usefulness is limited. resin is also expensive, and a pain to manage and clean up.

if it’s your first foray into printing definitely stick with a “normal” filament plastic machine (FDM). you can do a lot more large-form stuff and also make significant inroads into making mechanical/functional parts that could solve problems around your house even. SLA can’t do that. Plus when FDM fucks up bigly it can usually be fix with a screwdriver and 2 sizes of allen key…

@IMALlama I think my account is borked. I can see the comments in my inbox but on my post I can only see my comment. It says (6) comments but I only see mine. A number of communities don’t seem to show up properly, I thought it was just a Lemmy issue but maybe it’s a me issue. I also didn’t think this community was even active because the newest posts are a couple months old for me but I’ve gotten good feedback so thanks for all of the advice and the crash course.

It may be the instanced you signed up with. I think lemmy.world has defederated from a bunch of other instances plus has a lot of users and a lot of stability issues because of that.

I only had ‘undetermined’ selected for a language option, I added English and all is good. Thank you though.
