Perfect excuse to stay inside and avoid the crazies.

Fuck, someone down the street killed someone last night, pretty close to my mom’s place ☹️

I don’t particularly enjoy dressing up, but seeing others costumes is the best

I agree with a lot of what others here say but want to add: until recently it did a good service at holding christmas back which gets way too much commercialised

It’s a good time to go to the theme parks, haunted houses/mazes, and movies! Also Fall is my favorite season:)

First the costumes, some people really put a lot of work into costumes. Second the “scary” atmosphere. And it’s fall. I love fall.

  • Fun seeing all the decor in October. Makes it more fun biking home from work at night and its fun to go look at with others. The lower “rules” for halloween decor makes it more fun than Christmas decor imo, but I still love Christmas decor as well.

Also its an excuses to dress in public or around people you know in ways that go against their expectations (this also applies to other excuses to dress in costumes, like cons/renfest, certain movies, etc).

my genetic German-blooded pragmatism is apparently too overpowering for all this Halloween nonsense. I guess I don’t like anything about it because Halloween wasn’t my idea, and I never would’ve come up with such a concept. I don’t like the expectation of dressing up in a costume, unhealthy addictive sugary candy that contributes to lifelong illness & tooth decay. I hate spiders & bats & witches & darkness & the color orange…need I go on? 😆

As a kid I loved how morbid and dark Halloween was, as well as the fact that it was the only holiday that allowed me to escape my house and family for the evening, rather than be held captive to their dysfunction. Holidays were hell, but Halloween was sweet escape.

Today I’m depressed at how few kids trick-or-treat, I’ve never been able to give out candy and that makes me really sad. The holiday is somewhat dead for me - and I don’t know how to revive it.
