Our local united church is a supporter of trans rights too. I’m not religious at all but appreciate how they actually behave in a Christ-like fashion.

There are three denomation that officially support the LBGT+ community, that I know of off the top of my head. The Episcopal Church, the ELCA, and the Unity Church. There may be more but those are the ones I know have official and sustained support for the LBGT+ community.

UCC is probably the most progressive American denomination. The UCC church i went to as a kid in Ft. Wayne did a baptism for a lesbian couple’s baby back in 2007. The one i went to in Houston 10 years ago had a black lesbian pastor in a congregation that consisted of 1/3 philippinos, 1/3 Nigerians, and 1/3 old Blue Dog Democrats. I would describe myself as an atheist/agnostic, but i enjoy going to the UCC services at the church down the street a few times a month. The sermons have ALWAYS been about how Jesus told people to love one other, and i have never heard a fire and brimstone message in all my years of going to UCC churchs.

The UCC is another. The General Synod declared the denomination to be Open And Affirming.

However, because the structure of the denomination is not hierarchical, the General Synod can’t force every congregation to be Open And Affirming, although most are.

The website has a map so you can check on congregations in your area. The one in the picture above is in Tulsa OK.

While I personally think that religion has many more negative effects overall than it does positive ones, primarily on people’s ability to rationally come to conclusions based on evidence, (e.g. if the bible says only 2 sexes were created by god, but we can physically observe intersex people, who’s right? Some Christians would argue intersex people only exist because of Satan, rather than the reality that it just doesn’t match up with scripture) this is absolutely NOT the way to go.

If you are a believer that specifically chooses not to follow the hateful parts of an only partially hateful book, then you are definitionally following a non-hateful book.

Most of these people would have ended up being raised from when they were kids as Christians whether or not their church was loving or hateful. This is obviously better than the alternative. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.
