His reason was preventing rising healthcare costs. But the drugs are cheap relatively, and Washington already has a similar law with no rise in healthcare costs.
Increasing healthcare costs, for fucking real??? Yeah man, the medication I’ve been on for the past 15+ years is going to be cheaper if I get it month by month instead of a year’s supply at once. This is the most stupid ass excuse I’ve heard. ‘I can’t do math and think you’re going to stop transitioning in under a year’ as a defense. Pisses me off.
WA’s law only applies to healthcare plans started or renewed in 2026 or later. HRT is cheap, so the costs should be minimal. But any costs this law could have haven’t happened yet.
Health plans issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2026, including health plans issued to public and school employees, that include coverage for prescription hormone therapy must provide reimbursement for a 12-month refill of covered hormone therapy obtained at one time by the enrollee. The 12-month refill requirement only applies to prescription hormone therapy that can be safely stored at room temperature

Let me clarify his stance for you: it’s to not increase Healthcare costs for everyone else. He doesn’t care about your Healthcare costs.
It isn’t possible for a medication I am already on and have been on for 15+ years to increase health costs for everyone else.
Also notice he’s vetoing a bill that was sent from the state Senate. This man is standing up and saying “Nuh-uh, I know better” then dropping this…
