Yeah, I don’t know what’s going on here. Looks like a mod having a breakdown. I posted the rest for context and I’m in the middle.
I got linked to the comment chain from elsewhere. The comment had a link to a tech dude’s blog, supposed to point out his white supremecism. I didn’t see anything bad in that article, but stumbled on another one with nazi apologia, thought they may have linked the wrong article, posted it. That’s it. That’s all I did.
I guess it is called awful.systems and the culture confuses me, but man, what a dick move to call me a facist in the modlog.
If nothing else, I hope this drama is entertaining.
Edit: Because this is, well, the internet: I was not defending DHH. Another removed/banned comment said they couldn’t find anything bad in that link either, so I found one where DHH was being more blatant in his bullshit.
Was the original article the one talking about how its a problem that London is becoming less white?
No, it was a generic message about work on systems and moving platforms.
Ahh. Looks like anyone spreading links to fascist propaganda is being called a fascist?
I guess we’re not supposed to show how facists are being facists when people ask to show them the facism.
Correct. You don’t need to spread obscure blogs that push fascist ideology. OTOH, calling you a fascist seems like a really bad way of explaining that.
Calling out fascism is now fascism? What is antifascism now, ignoring them until it’s too late?
I disagree. The blog was already linked in the comment I responded to. Another user, who didn’t know about DHH’s bullshit, asked what was so bad about the benign article linked. I didn’t know if OP was being a shithead or just linked the wrong article, so I was saying “this guy is a dick because he said this.”
Propaganda doesn’t stop existing when the people who know better pretend it’s not there. I believe in bringing receipts when making a claim.
hey’s blog is hardly what i’d consider obscure, and the alternative to providing evidence that someone is a fascist is just assuming whatever anyone says about anyone is true, which is normalizing defamation and libel. i don’t love either that presenting evidence of fascism allows fascism to attach its propaganda to what’s being said, but i think the alternative is worse.
better is to conextualize and educate. say “here is what was said, and why it’s a problem.” not discussing dogwhistles and why they’re problems only lets them spread farther without anyone knowing the truth about them, even if they spread less far. in other words: they become more effective if you ignore them.
i think it’s a very hard balance to strike but we have to put in the effort to do it rather than having faith people will act right. worldwide, authoritarianism is on the rise. fascists have the mic. we don’t have the luxury of trust people to be educated to recognize what they see without providing context
Are you literally stupid?
Yes, why?
