    Credits, deductions, other incomes, etc.

    They know what you made as reported.

    They don’t necessarily know what you may claim that would significantly alter the results for deductions, rebates, credits, forwarding amounts, etc: whether you are filing with a new common law partner, got a divorce/separated, foreign investments, dependents, unreported income (tips, self employment), in prison, etc.

    There are literally hundreds of possible variables that can affect the amount owing or refunded.

    Yes, they would probably have something that says if your situation hasn’t changed then do nothing.

    But, lives change, and that can have a drastic impact on your tax/financial situation.
