Never thought of that! What if the aliens are not social animals and think we’re fucking bizarre? The only social animals on their planet are the lower beasts.
It’s funny, from a human perspective, it’s hard to picture a species that produced space-faring technology without a significant social structure to support it.
Dad was a huge sci-fy reader and said the same. He also said that whoever we run into out there will have evolved as the top predator on their planet. So we might meet Predator or it might be like Deathworlders, where Earth is considered unihabitable by alien races and we badasses show up.
The first part of the story is a solid classic. I wouldn’t go much past it.
