I always feel these kinds of posts have the purpose of discouraging people to vote, because “both parties are the same”. Yet both parties are not exactly the same. In fact, we are witnessing the differences right now. One party is fascist, unconstitutional and doesn’t respect the law.

Lately there’s been a lot of memes that seem to instill distrust into political systems, definitely with the goal of getting people to not vote.

Tbf, our two party system is truly awful. We need to fight for a modern multiparty democracy with proportional representation

I don’t know what was said above, why was it removed? Was it extreme or are we now censoring divergent comments on DB0?

I feel like that is a bit antithetical to the politics of this page and my own.

Just checking. I’ve noticed the walls of the fediverse closing a bit and I don’t like it

Yes, earlier today user Cryptagion literally posted an anti-democracy statement and doubled down in the comments. They don’t want you to vote against the fascism, explicitly.

…but measurably less so. It’s like that trolley thing someone else posted where one side runs over a dense infinity, and another runner over another infinity at a less frequent integer.

Are both shit? Absofuckinlutely! But are both the same? Very clearly not.

It’s like having to choose between eating a salad or eating a turd, and exclaiming that they’re the same because you’re really not in the mood for salad… then giving a group of strangers the power to make that decision on your behalf… then feeling some weird sense of smugness for not participating while you’re being force-fed a turd.

Like, your heart’s in the right place - the whole system is fucked… But why not vote for the lesser and take action to burn this shit down? You can do both at the same time. That way you get whatever vision you’re shooting for, but with fewer brown people in cages, fewer women dying from getting pregnant in a red state, fewer Gazan children getting their arms blown off…

Zero is the number we want, but the options within our current system are some vs more. You can abstain, but all that’s doing is declining to nudge the outcome away from more - and when enough people do that, we get more of all that evil shit.

Okay, that’s fair. No one should be forced to vote for a genocide ever. And any system that tries to force people to vote for genocide to defeat fascism is not worth saving… But even on the issue of genocide, Democrats were the lesser evil. Democrats protested genocide while Republicans proudly cheer for it.

And now that we’re done with the shit you don’t mean, here comes the capital-B “But.”

But even on the issue of genocide, Democrats were the lesser evil.

By as thin a margin as they mistakenly thought they could get away with.

Democrats protested genocide while Republicans proudly cheer for it.

some democrats protested genocide. centrist democrats screamed abuse at us when we did.

They didn’t do shit to protest it other than say they felt bad about still having to send Israel bombs while giving Ukraine a small handful of bullets and some flowers. Actions speak louder than words. If they actually cared, they’d give Israel nothing but the middle finger and give Ukraine and Palestine everything they want.
