Democratic leadership is now as unpopular with its base of voters as the GOP was in 2014, just a year before Trump took over the party, according to a new Pew Research poll. "These are conditions for real change," said progressive journalist David Sirota.

So you’re saying they have a chance of taking the presidency?

Also … is that a good thing or a bad thing? When it comes to American politics, I don’t know anymore.

The parties are functionally identical at this point in their output - both are bad for everyone on the planet, unfortunately.

This is why IRV is so important. Kick both paries to the curb. The issues with the parties are different though.

The Republican party had its revolution but not in any substance. It is largely a movement focused on destruction and retribution fanned by opportunists and disinformation. It is about weakening an dividing the country and yes helping billionares. It is not about sane policy. What could go wrong?

Democrats. That Sanders revolution failed. So the party is stuck in the past. It needs a change. Leaders are too old and out of touch. With some major exceptions, they do not seem to be able to communicate with working class people and frankly do not seem to want to. Who knows where this is going.

I’m only one person but I used to donate regularly to the Democrats and their candidates. I’ve unsubscribed from anything and everything they had me subscribed to. I’ve changed my registration to Republican in hopes the Dems leave me alone. They lost to Trump. Twice. Not a very effective party and not worth my time or money.

Instead of signing up with the Republicans you should do what a lot of us have done and find a home with socialists and commies. At least they are actually fighting for something that will make your life materially better.

And if you want to join an org or just throw some donations to people who are doing the work to change things - your local area almost definitely has a DSA or PSL chapter you can join.

And since I’m doing my pitch, there is growing consensus in the DSA nationally to form a party or work more deliberately to usurp the power of the incumbent Democrats within their own party with socialists. If you want to see the party become more effective in time, that’s the place to be imo. Some of the smartest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with here.
