Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel reaffirmed his commitment to the roadmap agreed upon with Brazil to advance food sovereignty and nutritional security.
At the closing of the first High-Level Meeting on Public Policies in this area, the president described the forum as “a milestone,” highlighting the convergence between Brazilian tools, such as the vulnerability assessment and communal production systems, and Cuban municipal self-sufficiency programs. He also highlighted the island’s progress in agroecology and expressed his gratitude for the support of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, as well as for the presence of various Brazilian institutions.
During the meeting, a bilateral roadmap was presented that aims to strengthen urban, suburban, and family agriculture, promote cooperative alliances, boost the use of renewable energy in local food systems, and consolidate school feeding programs and public procurement for family agriculture.
Cuba and Brazil also agreed to create a joint working group that will have 90 days to design an action plan to implement the commitments made.
I believe we will see more of this as an effect of USA tariffs. Why would anyone care about the American blockade when they are getting tariffs anyway? I’m hopeful this will lead to improving the material conditions of the global south.
