Are you complaining about the niche communities not having any activity, but not posting anything there yourself? I could’ve sworn i saw a meme about just such a thing, if only i could find it.
But in all seriousness, most “dead” communities have many lurkers that are joined but not posting, so posting there isn’t necessarily a waste of time

The fact is that if you arent into Linux, piracy, shitting on Elon or communism a lot of Lemmy is pretty shit.
I was super active on Reddit in a lot of communities that are just straight up wastelands here.

I personally am 99% of the posts in one of said niche communities. Plants won’t grow if you don’t put effort into growing them, why would communities?
