Humming bird at our feeder. Took the pic through my basement window. Vancouver Island, BC.
Another shot.
Had one fly into the open doors of my bedroom the other day in puget sound and it hovered only feet away for a couple of moments while I lay there , it was a chonker you could really hear the fluttering of its wings.
Every time you see a hummingbird feels special no matter how many times you have seen them.
I saw one this summer and I was elated. I’ve only seen like 3 in the last 10 years so it was really special.
I live in the same area, and I probably have like 6 around the yard that are territorial over the feeder. It’s full-on hummingbird warfare at certain times of the day.
Nice birb. Ours just left for the season 🥺
If I am correct, that is a female Anna’s Hummingbird.
Merlin agrees. How do you tell she’s a she?
Edit:
Oh I looked in this book and see what you mean. 👍👍
We only really see the Anna’s and Rufous hummingbirds in this region.
Because of the very green back and lack of general rust-coloured areas, specifically the lack of red on the side of the torso its an Anna’s. Then because it is missing the (magnificent) head colouring it is a female.
