Edit: I love how this one got a solid mix of actual advice + shitposts.
After every race change oil and filters for the engine and optionally gearbox and differential. Send samples for analysis to determine if a replacement is needed.
If it taste sour in your morning soup of course
If you have an oil leak no need. Just add more.
I had this with my first car, and second (got them used) 😆 then I bought new electric and never had to pay for that expensive oil and gas ever again 🥹
It is so financially pleasing
You check the color using your engine’s dip-stick. If it’s black, get it changed.
Once there’s metal shavings in it
Every 3500 for standard and every 7000 for synthetic. And at least every 6 months regardless of mileage.
If you can’t tell if its thick chocolate syrup or oil or the motor has seized, its probably past time to change.
people mostly follow the 3-months/3k-miles rule. i once left oil in there for ~8 years and didnt notice a difference, but that will probably be ill-advised by many on here.
thankfully, i drive an ev now so i dont need to maintain (or… not maintain in this case) oil changes.
