Is there a “right” way to play this game? I got a bit overwhelmed because I would fail checks and was worried I was blocking off “successful” paths to complete the game.
Am I just supposed to crack a few beers, say “fuck it” and just play in whatever way feels the most hilarious?
Often times, in this game, failure leads to “better” or more interesting outcomes than success. There are even some situations where succeeding too well is actually detrimental.
My enjoyment of the game increased significantly once I realized I was inside a story and I should just let it happen while enjoying the ride.
Yeah in my first playthrough I arrested all the kids at the church (I was trying to impress Kim) which locked me out of a pretty significant part of the story
Yes 👍 some failures are better than succeeding the roll and the game is abundant with other leads to follow. Just pick which specific 2 or 3 rolls you think Harry would win more often and then enjoy the chaos
Not completely true. There are ~4 checks that can result in a soft lock if you fail it enough times. My first game ended (SPOILERS) here because I was running a low intelligence build (I had 1 the first time I tried), and then I levelled up and retried 4 more times, completing every side quest I could find. Once I failed it the 4th time with 5 logic, that was it. No longer possible to progress at all.
Shooting AT the kid is okay. Punching the kid is okay. Buying drugs from/giving drugs to the kid is okay.
But you kill him and it’s game over. If you take the shot, you actually want the roll to fail. Or maybe not, cuz missing just makes him talk even more shit.

Okay well Titus is a whole minefield of a “bossfight” so definitely don’t want to fail any checks there
It’s not that kind of game. You can fail your way to success, as long as you aren’t going too far, like shooting a kid or something.
