I’ve been thinking of upgrading camera from A6000 to A6700. Surprisingly there are no exchange offers anywhere where I’m from (India).

Which doesn’t make sense because whenever I’m looking for smartphone, most places have option to exchange old phone for new one.

I find more success in private party transactions on sites like OfferUp and Facebook Marketplace in the US. Not sure how it is in India, but most places around me don’t do trade-ins unless it’s like Apple for a smartphone or laptop and they give you such low cash that it’s nearly worthless. They offered me $50 USD for my 2017 MacBook Air that is still going strong. That won’t even cover sales tax on a new MacBook Air of the lowest variety.

But I posted this on local sites for my area and posted a price with a thing in the description that I’m open to trades. While waiting for a response, I go check out other listings, sometimes specifically searching for “MacBook trade” and I’ll find tons of non-MacBook listings that have these keywords and I can make a deal with these people. Either to trade with cash or not.

Some people will be willing to downgrade with the promise of cash on your side because they want money more than they want another item. And in the case of a camera, if someone doesn’t really want to give up their camera but needs the money, hey that might be your ticket so they can at least have a camera of the same type that is a downgrade and some money on top.
