Many people, myself included, who are against violence are just against it being the first method used to resolve a situation.

I’m a pacifist, but if someone was an immediate threat to myself or a loved one, and there was no peaceful way to resolve things, I’d use whatever violence was necessary to remove the threat. And I’d sleep like a baby after it too.
