congrats on leaving the cesspit, I know it’s hard, they have you jonesing for some orangereds, but trust me after 3 months you won’t remember what “orangered” even meant and lemmy isn’t as addictive because it’s not trying to suck your vril out from your screen since it doesn’t vampires to feed your blood to.

And the hope is that it will be leaning toward a more decentralized structure over time, even though at this time, power still is concentrated in the hands of the “big servers” and “big communities”

Yeah, but it is barely known. People here should use Reddit just to make Lemmy more known and recruit people from Reddit

Wouldn’t they just bring all their bots with them? I visited reddit for the first time today after a long time. It is really really toxic. r/conservative has those emotional aggitation bots spinning up civil war in the US, and everything is just overtaken with drama bots.

Did you seriously just picked the worst subreddit as an example of all of Reddit like the sub that this post is about didnt even exist? This is a pure straw man

“People should go into smoking areas just to tell people to stop smoking.”

People will find their way out once the decent non-smoker content dries out and Lemmy links become shared more.

This is a terrible and lazy analogy. It is more like, you are in one bar and you go to a different bar to tell people about this new bar that you like. I get that you don’t want to tell Reddit people about it. But just say that instead of having a negative analogy to discourage other people from doing it.

I am afraid if they all come it will ruin our space, but maybe my fears are unfounded and based on the horrible taste Reddit left. Honestly, I have been trying to warn people about surveillance in apps and media and how severe the issue is for 15 years now and they do not care. People just do not care about corporate takeovers, privacy, etc. We probably would not have luck with them. I tried to get all my friends on federated media and failed, but did manage to get one convinced to get something other that gmail.

looking at the same narrative shaping taking place on other instances like .world make me unsure that this a good idea.

Well can tell people about about it, if we all can get just one or two peoplle to make the switch and they did the same then there’d be exponential growth, the bigger problem is people who dont see the need to swtich, which is why I’m glad when reddit shoots their foot like this and makes it more obvious

and again and again and people will STILL stay on that platform anyways; it’s like a socialy media version of the us duopoloy voting system.
