Wait wait wait. They finally went full width with that goddamn camera bump, a move that could radically improve the physical user experience by finally allowing this thing to rest evenly on a flat surface. Then, they put another set of camera bumps on the camera bump to ensure that it never does this. Honestly, this is like an elaborate, slow rolling practical joke at this point.
A camera bump in a camera bump is definitely a choice.
Yo dawg….
The lenses already protruded like this. They use more real estate inside the device now, though, and it rolls less than before. An improvement is there :)
How much they charging for the Trump dick sucking model?
That’s every Apple product… Then again that’s nearly every large, American tech company…
Ike it or not, and for the record I don’t, the price for that model is “the same as last year”.
Yep. Noticed pricing didn’t change across their line up. They definitely got what they wanted from him.
Just cost them their diginity, the price was several fractional magnitudes of what the tariffs would have cost them in revenue.
Well, the pricing kind of didn’t change. The pricing on all the smaller devices, the watches, AirPods, etc didn’t change at all. And the pricing on the phones didn’t change as much as the cheapest storage tier went away, and the second cheapest storage option is the same price as before. In a world of inflation and tariffs, I’d consider that a win.
And yes, I agree it came at the cost of Cooks dignity. I’m not certain how I feel about it, but I’m pretty sure I hate it.
Yes. Meant didn’t change.
I’m not certain how I feel about it, but I’m pretty sure I hate it.
As an Apple hardware user, I am very disappointed.
From my investor perspective, I’m ambivalent. I understand the weight of the fiduciary responsibility and I will still continue to vote for Cooks removable mainly for other reasons. One of those reasons is how these presentations have shifted to being a long commercial rather than a truly live event. Tim doesn’t get it. He only understands supply chains. He is mediocre at best with everything else, terrible for many things.
I don’t work for Apple but their choice to force engineers to come into the office is one of those terrible decisions. They were literally more flexibility prior to covid. Engineers do not collaborate in person, especially when forced.
Hiss…we hates it, we does! Filthy nasty people. We hates it very much. Gollum, gollum.
it is kind of a gold colour
I would be more interested in a budget-camera option if it meant price reduction and no bump. If that were also the one not solely marketed in the hands of 22-year-old fashionistas, all the better.
We have the same complaint lol. I’d buy the base iPhone if it had the same processing power as the Pro, and that’s exactly what I did with the 12 generation.
Honestly I’d be interested in a phone with no notch & just the most basic camera for qr codes, but I think neither of us are part of big enough demographics to matter in this
Whole lot of nothing
So they went back to aluminum eh? The cheaper an weaker material is going bring the cost down, right? Right?
Titanium was always a bad choice for thermals. Now they have the Air as the princess phone and the Pros look designed to perform not to look, seems like.
Aluminium is much lighter than titanium, so these phones will at least be lighter right?
I’m sorry to have to disappoint you. It keeps getting heavier (and larger).
Somehow they managed to make it heavier, 206g for the 17 Pro vs 199g for the 16 Pro. They’ve been hovering at around 200g for a while though, so as ugly as that phone is, it probably isn’t noticeably heavier than like a 13 Pro
More battery tho
The metal frame is a tiny fraction of the overall cost.
Aluminum was the better material for this use case. All that’s changed is Apple is finally admitting it.
I know the camera bumps have been getting bigger over time, but this is just too much. These are definitely the ugliest iPhones ever released.
Honestly i kinda like it, looks neat. Not that i’d ever buy one but looks neat.
I don’t think it’s pretty, but it does have way more “personality” in its design than any iphone before. I prefer that over pretty
The iPhone X and XS are the ones I think looked the best
The improved camera and battery life are both very welcome. As a parent, I’ll take all the camera improvements I can get!
Normally I wouldn’t upgrade yet but if I give my teen my 15Pro and pick up a new 17Pro, then migration to USB-C is complete. That also gives the entire family hardware that should support aApples upcoming ai features
Orange Pro instant buy. Those cameras are really promising, battery life looks to be impressive and thermals well managed. My iPhone XS can retire peacefully.
I upgraded to a 16 Pro Max from an XS Max last year, and this announcement is really ensuring that I made the correct decision. It looks like a fine phone, but the cameras and battery life and speed of the 16 pro max are already insane.
I’m waiting for a watch announcement though, I’d love to finally upgrade my Series 0 that I’ve had forEVER to whatever last year’s model is for cheap.
I’d love to finally upgrade my Series 0
How’s the battery life holding up on that?
It’s lasts about as long as it does to read this sentence.
Eight hours! Almost ten years!
I’m a slow reader :-p
Twice as long as my series 0, if I took it out of the junk drawer
Amazing construction site optics 🚧🏗️
I hated the previous Aluminum unibody designs and I hate the new one as well.
I will bet this new model does amazing things that have never been seen before! This is going to be super super cool and i am going to wait in a very long line to get one. It will totally be worth it when I can show it off and people will be able to recognize it since it will be very different from all the other models.
Don’t forget to throw away your old model! Smash it on the ground and grind it to pieces with your heel so you can truly experience the exclusivity of a brand new Apple iPhone!
I’d recommend trading it in instead. You’ll get more private sale, but Apple still has a pretty competitive trade in model.
* as long as the returned item is in pristine condition
Can’t they just remove the battery completely at this point and require it to be charged 100% of the time? It’s not like it would change much.
What? They increased the battery size by like nearly 20%
Oh my bad. I thought this was about the new iPhone Air.
Do people still care about iphones?
You ask, in a community called “apple enthusiast” like a donkey
I get why they’re getting downvoted for the way and place they asked the question, but isn’t it kind of valid? All phones coming out these days are minor, incremental upgrades that are pretty much last year’s phone with 5% extra performance. I actually peeked at this because my old OnePlus is starting to show signs it’s ready for retirement and I’m thinking of (gasp) having an apple device of some sort due to some apps I could use for work only being available on iOS, but otherwise I don’t think most people are excited for new phone releases anymore.
Both the camera and battery life are significant improvements. I’m excited.
For the watch, sleep apnea and high blood pressure sensors are a huge improvement for many of us. I’ll take all the health sensors I can get but those have my name on them (my watch is series 6 so I’d also pick up a few more sensors including crash detection)
What does that tell you about Gen Z?
that they like the iphone
it’s not hard to read words (for most of us)
Sure, sure. My bad, it’s only in the US.
I mean they are the superior product
Once unofficial android sideloading gets blocked, yeah.
Big fucking lol.
Can’t believe people are still this fucking delusional.
Which Android feature from 5 years ago are you most excited for them to add to this release?
Exhaustive data harvesting
I was hoping for irremovable malware.
My money was on delayed OS releases because of vendors.
apple has been doing that one for quite a while.
Not nearly in Google’s league
snowden leaked that they are on google’s league since the 2000’s
You’re ignoring all of the measures Apple implementatedin the 10 years since those Snowden leaks.
You’re also making a baseless claims that Apple knowingly participated with the NSA, which Apple denies indicating it was an inside threat actor working directly with the NSA without Apple’s knowledge.
Some data is stored in other providers clouds, Amazon and Google specifically and those clouds are the sources that were compromised. Apple has added end to end encryption to mitigate that.
For their own cloud services, the measures Apple goes to secure their servers is not trivial. They have employed strict chain of custody and it’s why they call out services that do their off device processes using Apple hardware.
Apple is working to build out their own cloud but anyone with basic knowledge understands that the hardware they manufacture isn’t the type used by cloud providers.
The changes in how containers work on Mac OS is because of their own internal work on using their own hardware for containers that are being used to expand their internal cloud because even Apple with their billion dollar contracts with built in penalities doesn’t trust Google.
Knowing what I know, I put Google dead last when it comes to my data. Microsoft and Amazon are several magnitudes more trustworthy and I don’t trust them either because they openly work with government agencies.
But sure, keep using Android because Apple isn’t perfect. Google appreciates you’re choosing to feed their algorithms directly.
There is absolutely a lesser of two evils here
I literally don’t care for the “android had x features n years ago, therefore android is better” argument
It’s not just about features. It’s literally the ENTIRE experience that’s better.
iOS is significantly more user friendly than android. It just FEELS better.
I personally find android to be clunky and jagged. I’m a developer I do software and I’ve developed for both android and iOS. Android is nicer with app deployment and side loading (though that is changing). iPhone is more restrictive. But for me in terms of every day use. I’m choosing the iPhone.
Hate to overuse the word “ecosystem” but that’s the silver bullet for me. I used to be an Android user, but bought the kids iPads years ago. I bought one for myself during lockdown when I decided I’d like to learn to draw digitally, then over the years bought an iPhone, then AirPods, then an Apple Watch, iPhones for the kids, an Apple TV, subscribed to Apple One etc.
It’s expensive, sure, but everything is just so seamlessly and flawlessly integrated. One device on its own could arguably be better or worse than a competitor’s, but all together it’s not even a contest.
Like I said…
Delusional.
