These are employment contracts which say that you if you work as a cook, you can’t the work as a cook at any other restaurant in the state. They have the effect of pushing down wages.

    Correct, but they serve the intended purpose, which is to make people worried exercising their rights will get them dragged into court and bankrupt them or worse. That’s enough to dissuade most people.

      It’s true that the mere prospect of being bankrupted is enough to scare most people. When only the rich and powerful can afford legal representation, the systems serves only them. We need a reform of that system almost as bad as we need electoral reform.
