Follow-up to yesterday’s post, where I suggested r/okbuddyrosalyn consider moving to [email protected].

https://old.reddit.com/r/okbuddyrosalyn/comments/1n4o6uk/should_we_consider_moving_off_of_reddit/

Comments are mixed. Several users seem open to moving, which is nice.

Most counterarguments seem to be as follows:

  • “Reddit haven’t banned us yet, why should we move now?”
  • “People don’t use Lemmy, so people won’t use Lemmy.”
  • “People use Discord.”

No response from any moderators yet, but I just tagged one, and we’ll see if they respond.

If you still have an account, feel free to help out in the Reddit thread, but keep in mind that most Redditors are still unfamiliar with Lemmy or the Fediverse. We were once newbies too :)

Perhaps Stupid Question: Is it possible to export a subreddits data (through scraping for example) and add it to lemmy? This would greatly help community migration efforts.

I guess this violates reddit terms of use though.

that first counter argument is the same energy as not having backups of your data. it’ll be too late and a lot harder to mobilize a new place after being banned.

actually that’s a good point I think. I’ll hop over reddit to say that and see where it goes.

I rarely comment there anymore because replies are 50/50 nice/vile and I’m just tired to gamble that odds.

I miss old reddit vibe, but that’s why I’m here.
