The fact that half the country has shit for brains leans me towards disagreeing with you. The 60’s saw a charismatic, camera friendly JFK beat old shitty Nixon and everything turned into a popularity contest after that.
The Republicans figured it out with Regan and have been refining it ever since. If Newsome can get enough shit brained non voters to put his name in a box for lulz then fuck it, I’d rather have that asshole than whoever the Republicans are going to pick.
I’ll be happier to see a progressive, educated professional with a successful career full of giving-a-shit , independent and with wild grassroots support, but that doesn’t seem likely.
