If you ever bothered to use them you would find that they do not charge you for the privilege. They do offer some services that you must pay to use but you are not forced to use them and can do without them all if you are conscientious enough to cover your own ass for mistakes

Except why do private companies handle taxes at all? That’s not their business and the government should be able to handle it all themselves. Take your smugness and shove it.

        “not forced to use them”

This ignores obnoxious hurdles in place to make the free tier as shitty as possible so people buy.

“cover your own ass for mistakes” Well can you personally guarantee that these asshats won’t create traps and gotcha’s along the way?

Since I don’t own the company, no I cannot guarantee anything. Guess I shoukda stuck a big fat #YMMV on the post. If none of you are comfortable using them, thats fine. DON’T USE THEM. If they have income limits for the free file thats their prerogative. Anyone that has to do your math for you deserves compensation

Depends on specifics. I haven’t been able to use the free tier for years. These companies collect all kinds of data from its users too.

Most free tax services have a income ceiling and the free service is being subsidized by the government. So we are paying our tax money for it, it’s never free. I made decent money so I won’t get the subsidized free service most likely. It’s not that I can’t afford it, it’s just that it’s complete bullshit that they spent the tax money creating a great free tax service and their shelving it to prop up fucking private corporations further. I should not have to pay a second time to a private company to pay my taxes easily. The whole system is fucked. I’m so sick of Trump‘s bullshit. I hate him and these fucktard conservatives so fucking much.

*This is more than just this tax program that has me so mad. I hate the direction of America on so many issues.

Taxes are taken out of your checks before you are even paid. This isn’t practical.

I do have to wonder if everyone stopped paying federal taxes how that would fuck over Trump. Like, would he admit he’s powerless against the numerous? Would he just lie and pretend the money is there? Would he just not pay the bills like he has historically done?

It’s fun to imagine what he would do facing adversity.

          taxes are

          Get paid under the table.

          would he just pretend

Yes. Obviously. Money’s fake anyway. But that would heighten a looooot if contradictions and fracture a lot of coalitions on the right.

Well, if you don’t have a complicated tax return, meaning you only have a 9-5 job and no other income streams. You can file it yourself.

Normally I would be easy, but I’m dealing with the federal tax credit for solar. Getting it in under the wire before Trump‘s dumbass cancels the program. Could’ve done it myself with the free site. Probably going to go with a local tax professional now. If I’m gonna spend money, I’d rather go with a local person than giving money to these fucking websites. Their lobbyists got the IRS website taken down in the first place.
