    The problem is Germany had too many small special weapon programs.

    1. Wire Guided anti-ship missle
    2. Jet fighter/bomber
    3. Rocket fighter
    4. ICBMs and cruise missles
    5. Mini land ship
    6. Not so mini land ship
    7. Vtol aircraft
    8. Many many duplicate projects of the above.
    9. Big submarine
    10. Big battleship

    But their never put enough resources on a few of them to make them viable.

    The US had 3 really big projects.

    1. Portable temporary sun
    2. Superbomber B29
    3. Proximity fuses (arguably the most important weapon of WW2)

      They never seriously invested on it, but then, that’s to be expected given the size of that list.
