I hope this is not inappropriate. I live in australia, a massive supporter of israel/US. I am aware that my money here will always directly or indirectly support israel/US murdering people. There’s nothing I can do about them, but I want to make sure I’m not helping them, and even better, if possible, hurting them.
I would like to take the money out of the bank and invest in companies that do not support in any way the monsters, and part of it to donate to fight them, if such option legally (since they control the law) exists. But I’m having trouble finding anything.
I found this thread which lead nowhere on reddit https://old.reddit.com/r/HalalInvestor/comments/1az8ph6/stocks_that_arent_supporting_israel/ But I think most of them are americans. Maybe in a non american audience I could get ideas.
As for donations, my main concern is that, like I said, they control the law, so I have little way of knowing that any organization I donate to will be allowed to do something legally, and any organization actually fighting them are instantly “terrorists” and my money would never reach them.
For that reason, I am not trying to help Palestinians, but also, and more importantly, because that would treat the symptom, but not the disease. After they wipe out Palestine from earth, they will go after the next profitable target. Or not even wait for that, see Iran, Iraq, Cuba, etc. There are enough people trying already to help them, and they are being stopped because the oppressor is too powerful. I want to help fix that issue instead.
And if I can’t help, at least I want to make sure I’m not making it worse. Keeping my money in banks or basically anywhere in australia is helping to make it worse. Even paying taxes here is making it worse. I want to make sure I’m not the problem.
I am not worried about profits. I am just worried about not wasting/loosing money. It’s my only weapon, I have to use it well, and I might need it in the future, though I don’t need much money currently, since I live in a van.
So, long post… is there any suggestion?
As for companies that are “good” or “neutral” it is difficult to find and i don’t know where to look either.
Depending on your situation and possibilities you could maybe invest into your own subsistence. E.g. if you own your house and/or some land you could look into making yourself as energy independent as possible with a PV-System. You can start growing as much of your own food/material and try to lower your overall consumption footprint. Basically the less you engage with the capitalist economy, the less of your money can be used for the wrong things.
When it comes to investing in businesses, looking local might be the way to go. E.g. if you can talk directly with the owner and communicate if they fit your guidelines, that gives you more of an insight than just looking at the reports of stock companies. Obviously that requires you to have a relevant amount of money to invest and investing in small businesses is more risky than investing in larger companies, ETFs or the like.
The money I had saved was meant to buy a house. But quite a while ago I gave up. Athough what I had is a lot (for me), it’s not enough to buy a house in this country dominated by investors.
Like I said, I live in a van. I consume very little already, and I try to consume less all the time. Compared to the average australian I’m basically non existent.
I don’t want to invest in this country. I could invest in Cuba, Palestine, somewhere with an embargo as long as they are not too evil. Money I spend or save here will become taxes which will be used to pay murderers. But I have no idea of where or how. There the saying “a fool and his money are soon parted” and I am a fool in financial terms, and I don’t want it to just go to people taking advantage of me.
I don’t mind if it’s risky, as long as the risk is noble. A company struggling with american embargo, for instance, have a good chance of going down, and I hope to help them. But someone just stealing my money is a different kind of risk.
