    ah, the subscription model for basic security. lovely. soon we’ll be paying a monthly fee just to make sure the doors still lock. guess car companies really are just software companies now, and not the good kind.

    Keep in mind that the car-stealing device reportedly costs around $20,000, so the likelihood of it being in the ownership of a thief isn’t extremely high.

    Some day, car companies are going to have to come to terms with the fact that they are software companies with a manufacturing department.

    The rest of the software industry learned this the hard way. If you only let paying customers have access to security patches, the effects will spill over to your paying customers and everyone else. It’s why Microsoft let’s you have “Activate Windows” sit on your screen for years and still gives you updates.

    Dang, I really like Hyundai. My past two vehicles have been great. I really liked the Ioniq 5. If they’re going to pull this shit, that’s a big no from me on the next vehicle.

      I was genuinely looking into getting a Hyundai Kona EV, however, when you look into it, Hyundai at the current moment in time has no way of properly maintaining or diagnosing the battery, if you take one in for service and they notice a dent in your skid plate, the entire battery needs to be replaced according to Hyundai and that’s the price of a new vehicle. I ended up going with a Mustang Mach-e.

        The Mustang Mach E seems like the way to go for an affordable EV. Especially considering they’re used as fleet vehicles so you know there will be plenty of parts and knowledge on how to work on them out there. I just wish they could tow. I have a very small/light boat. It would be fine towing back and forth to the ramp.

          The fleet vehicle part is a big point! Ford claims the Mach-e has a towing capacity of 3,306 lbs and have recommended I take mine to Uhaul for a hitch install.

            Last I looked it up, the Mach E was type rated in Europe, but not the United States. Apparently the one thing our standards are higher for is towing because we expect more interstate travel.

    so this is a story of a story of an offer on the hyundai website to upgrade the cars security

    and ive stopped caring this is such sloppy garbage i expect from american technology websites
