Hey there, wonderful people! Imagine having access to an Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) that could build any software project in just a few hours. What would you ask the AGI to build for you? Personally, I’d be interested in a Lemmy alternative with tags instead of communities and less memes. What about you? Share your thoughts and project ideas in the comments below! Let’s spark some engaging discussions and explore the fascinating possibilities an AGI could bring to our software development endeavors.

Like Spotify but good. Basically pirate music easily and run on my own server. I’m sure it exists already, and I appreciate anyone who points me in the right direction (I just haven’t gotten around to researching).

I’d probably ask for a much better metagenome assembler and binner. there’s enough groundwork and data out there with exponentially more created each year. If an AGI could compress the 20 or so PhD student-years needed to really leverage that into something outstanding into a few hours that would be really nice.

I would want an extremely realistic infinite dynamically-generated open world game that basically combines every game we have into one. You put your VR headset on and you can barely tell the difference between reality and the game. What you imagine is suddenly constructed before you in real time. You can get in a car and cause chaos, escape in a farm meadow by a creek, climb a skyscraper, or start a war. There will be advanced AI pedestrians in the game that you can talk to about anything you want in real time, and the conversation/accent/amount of people will all be determined by the environment you’ve created in the moment.

Basically all the little niche projects out there that could really use more talented programmers and/or all the random little projects that don’t exist because I lack the time and skills to attempt them. So in the spirit of randomness, here’s some random examples:

    • I have a modest collection of handheld devices designed to emulate classic video games, but they often need better firmware, more games and emulators (within reason) ported to them, or both. For example, an alternate firmware for the (completely abandoned) PocketSprite that could connect to your home WiFi and download games from a samba share on demand, and keep the most recent games cached for playing on the go. (this would mitigate the extreme lack of storage space and cumbersome file transfer problems it has.)

    • More/Better PostmarketOS ports. This is a Linux distribution designed to run on as many devices as possible (specifically targeting phones but also open to other devices categories) to keep them running, updated, and usable until they physically fall apart. Although very weak by today’s standards, I’d get a kick of seeing it running on my C.H.I.P. Computer, my OLPC, and my eink Nook tablet. The first one of these three has a port in progress already.

One last one because I keep getting interrupted and I lost my train of thought.

    • Fan port of Barkley, Shut up and Jam: Gaiden to the Sega Genesis/Megadrive. Why?! Because the only meme that game doesn’t have is an “original” cannon port from 2033 with Blast Processing.

Edit: Oh, and more 64-bit ARM builds of the software I’d like to use.

Idk about dream projects cause I want to build them. The AGI can help while its not running my day trading tho. Its securing the most important part of a project in this capitalistic hellhole that passes as society, funding.

Edit: damn, guess its not okay to have the AGI do the boring stuff so humans can do the fun stuff? Lmao

If the flesh came into being because of spirit, that is a marvel, but if spirit came into being because of the body, that is a marvel of marvels.

Yet I marvel at how this great wealth has come to dwell in this poverty.

The above is from a millennia old text claiming it’s actually the future but no one realizes it and we’re currently in a recreation of the past created by an intelligence which was established in light, brought forth by an original humanity that’s now dead and served as archetype for us.

Maybe an AGI already did free you from your mortal flesh, and you just can’t tell the difference yet?

Mastodon, you’re talking about Mastodon, lol.

Anyway I’d build an service that provides free wifi at local businesses, then allows users to opt-in to a service that matches clients of those businesses with each-other based on common interests. Trying to encourage the establishment of hangouts / Third Places as a normal in society again.

Also possibly an application that tracks user input and the value of their input to the accomplishment of stated goals for the purpose of profit sharing. Essentially an automated accountability layer for cooperative projects and business ventures, integrated with automated project management based on Natural language processing.

An AGI with virtually no restrictions and an extensive knowledge of all information humanity has ever gathered?

Make a computer that governs the world fairly and for the people, cause God knows we can’t.

I think I like robotics. Design an android or a battle-mech with its own AI. And work for me and invest my money so I can afford a workshop and the parts for my robot.
