LLMs can create disinformation more convincing and at a rate no human can compete with. So scammers, political interests and other wealthy organisations will only keep funding it more and more.
The regular consumer is not the one who is going to decide whether this is a fad or not. It is being used, and will be used to a much higher degree in the future, whether we want it to or not.
