My guess is that since Ring has a history of well-known collaborations with police and ICE, they wanted to re-frame their evil surveillance network as a way to save a puppy. Instead, lots of uninformed normies suddenly realized what those cameras are capable of, and had a huge negative reaction given the state of things.

I wish I had the capital and time to try to fix the system. I’m not rich, I have to work to pay the bills and mortgage. I do understand my relative privilege and so try to do good where I can. I’m involved in 3 charitable organizations locally. We help feed and house lots of people. We bring clean drinking water to desperate populations elsewhere. I raise more money doing this than I could by taking my salary and directly spending it to fix an entire system. So, am I still a hypocrite? Boolean, absolutist thinking actually hinders progress.

Yeah, that’s a good way to quit right away. Honestly, learning something which they can use to quickly build something tangible is the best way to get bitten by the programming bug. Making a web page or something like that.

The only reason they’re still around is the massive, huge amounts of cash they’re given every couple months, which goes right into the furnace. It’s just a matter of time until they implode in spectacular fashion. We’re at the point right now where we can take advantage of VC-funded free shit, like how Uber rides were way cheap at the beginning. Difference is, there’s still no path to profitability for OAI and there never will be.

We went to a concert of his about 8 years ago and it was awesome. People of every walk of life; young, old, everything in between. Just a great positive vibe brought together by a fantastic show. He really went all out for it.
