I haven’t tested this with my parents (I mean I’m not gonna commit a crime just to test their reaction lol), but the vibes I’m getting is that they don’t care as long as (1) it’s not homicide against innocent people, and (2) I’m not using drugs, and (3) I don’t get caught doing it (because they’ll “lose face” or something)

Like I talk about digital piracy and they’re like: “cool, save a lot of money, very smart”, if it was shoplifting, they’d worry about me getting caught, not the legal/moral implications, same as if I were to, hypothetically, commit tax fraud, they don’t give a shit lol. Which, despite how shitty and abusive my parents are and I very hate them for most things, I kinda do appreciate the fact that they just have zero respect for the law lol

I mean like… they won’t talk, but if they feel like they’re gonna get in trouble, they will definitely throw me under the bus

P.S. Don’t confess your crimes here, this is about a hypothetical situation.

    Their worldview btw, not mine.

Its a remnant of British Colonialism.

“Drugs = Bad” is deeply engrained into Chinese culture (We are Chinese-American). Actually this is the case in many Asian cultures, including South Korea, Japan, and various Southeast Asian countries. If I accidentally killed someone in a bar fight, its viewed less as bad as if I were a drug addict, in terms of “losing face”. That’s how seriously they react to the idea of (non-medicinal) drug use.

Edit: And speaking of bars, its kinda funny how alcohol is semi-okay and encouraged when adults go to restaurants. I mean, isn’t alcohol a drug? Its strange where the lines are drawn.
