A Bronx office of the US House member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was vandalized early on Monday, according to New York City police, who say they are investigating.
The vandalism occurred after Ocasio-Cortez on Friday voted against a defense spending bill amendment authored by the Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia that would have eliminated funding for the system protecting Israel from missiles.
Her vote on Greene’s amendment prompted the Democratic Socialists of America to issue a statement accusing Ocasio-Cortez of backing Israel’s “eliminationist campaign against the Palestinian people”.
this all reeks of smear to me. the source, the op, the omission of details. and people just going along with it, “oh well guess i’m done with her.” well that was easy.
@geneva_convenience is on a one-person crusade to bring down AOC. Like, she must have cut them off in traffic once, or taken the last ice cream bar. They really hate AOC.
I haven’t blocked them yet, but since Lemmy insists on showing me only their posts smearing AOC (who does not receive money from AIPAC)) for some reason, I’m tempted to. From their post history I’m inclined to believe they’re posting in good faith, albeit with a clear bias and often creative editorializing.
Careful, there’s a snowflake here
My similar comment got deleted. On midwest social you can’t call people rabble rousers.
Anyway yes, this is just distracting from the core news
Do you think the photo is fake, the police & AOC’s campaign manager are lying, or The Guardian is fake news?
I think the claim that she funded or supports funding genocide by Israel is contradicted by the very public and verifiable voting record on the funding bill that continued funding Israel to which she voted nay. The entire premise of the attack is that she did something she didn’t actually do.
The bill removed “offensive” weapons, but left in “defensive” weapons. The distinction is meaningless; defensive weapon systems allow Israel to continue to prosecute it’s genocide without other countries (notably Iran) being able to act against them, so it still enables genocide.
Agreed.
If she votes against the bill: AOC opposes cutting military aid to Israel!
If she votes for the bill: AOC voted to keep sending weapons to Israel!
No. There were two distinct votes at play here.
The first vote, for which she voted nay, was to amend the bill, removing the sending of weapons to Israel.
The last vote, for which she voted nay, was to pass the bill itself. At issue here is the first vote only.
This yearly military budget bill always gets passed, without exception, which AOC knows. She knew that, in the end, the bill would get passed despite her nay vote. That being the case, why did she vote against removing military aid to Israel?
All she had to do was what Al Green (D), Marjorie Taylor Greene (R), Summer Lee (D), Thomas Massie (R), Ilhan Omar (D), and, Rashida Tlaib (D) did: Vote yes on the amendment and no on the bill.
At issue here is the first vote only.
The first vote was meaningless. It was a political stunt amendment by a racist conspiracy theorist. And a single vote for or against the amendment has no chance of affecting whether Israel got funds for more genocide.
This yearly military budget bill always gets passed, without exception, which AOC knows. She knew that, in the end, the bill would get passed despite her nay vote.
It’s really weird that you’re able to see this inevitability, yet you’re not able to also see the inevitable failure of the amendment MTG put forth. This is exactly why all this foaming at the mouth over a doomed amendment vote is so misdirected! It had no practical, functional, or realistic bearing on anything in reality other than for MTG to tell her conspiracy theorist followers that she opposes Jewish people getting more space lasers or however she wants to spin it.
That being the case, why did she vote against removing military aid to Israel?
She explained her reasoning. Why are you asking what she intended when she already explained why? I don’t agree with the reasoning, but it was still a meaningless act.
You’re complaining she put expired ingredients in a meal that she threw out and never served anyone. Meanwhile Trump is dodging Epstein list revelations, ICE is brutalizing and human trafficking (and genociding) immigrants, but at least we have someone to attack and feel morally superior to who literally didn’t fund Israel as was falsely claimed.
It doesn’t matter whether the amendment had a chance of passing nor what MTG’s motivations were in introducing it. AOC still voted against blocking military aid to Israel.
And the amendment didn’t say anything nutty or conspiratorial. It was a simple deletion: “An amendment numbered 114 printed in Part A of House Report 119-199 to strike funding for the Israeli Cooperative Programs.” However MTG spun it is immaterial.
So you acknowledge it didn’t have a chance of passing and was thus of completely null value, except as far as you get to use it to attack someone for not virtue signalling your preferred message. And it’s really super important to drag her because doing so will magically help more leftists come to power in the US and topple the authoritarian regime…? What’s your end game on this strategy? You’ll die on a useless hill from a MAGA boot on your face and your last satisfied utterance will be, “at least we told AOC off that one time,” is that it? Do you think this witch hunt will have any useful results?
AOC still voted against blocking military aid to Israel.
No, she didn’t. Any number times zero is zero. She could have voted for an amendment to kick puppies and then voted against the bill and thus ultimately voted against kicking puppies. You don’t seem to understand how bills and amendments work.
What result do you want to happen here?
She could have voted for an amendment to kick puppies and then voted against the bill and thus ultimately voted against kicking puppies. You don’t seem to understand how bills and amendments work.
No u don’t seem to. If she knew a bill was ultimately going to pass, then why wouldn’t she vote against a puppy kicking amendment? At best she would have saved puppies from getting kicked, and at worst she would have demonstrated to the electorate that she’s against kicking puppies.

“My “leftist” supports genocide, but I’m going to give them a pass on that 🤗. Kamala is working tirelessly towards a ceasefire!”
Except you literally posted a statement that she doesn’t support genocide. You’re contradicting your own narrative.
Comparing AOC to Kamala is a nice touch. That lack of nuance will definitely push the electorate to the left in the primaries.
Kamala is working tirelessly towards a ceasefire!
Who said these words?
You did. Are you not tracking the thread?
AOC tells DNC that Harris ‘working tirelessly to secure a ceasefire, bring the hostages home’
AOC ran cover for Harris despite the fact that the VP’s office says ‘no daylight’ between Harris and Biden on Israel-Hamas.
Yes, I’m aware what they were quoting. It doesn’t hold any meaning. It was a non sequitur.
You think the DSA would just casually throw AOC under the bus?
There are no missing details. AOC supports giving American taxpayer dollars to Israel for weapons while it commits a genocide.

I don’t even understand people being angry at her, it might be cutting some funding, but it’s literally still sending funds to Israel for use in continuing genocide. Any money sent is too much. Why do people think she should have voted to send money to them for continuing the slaughter. I do not understand.
AOC voted against the amendment which cut all funding from Israel. She did the opposite of what you claim.
Put your hate boners back in your pants, people. She voted against the bill.
Her vote on Greene’s amendment prompted the Democratic Socialists of America to issue a statement accusing Ocasio-Cortez of backing Israel’s “eliminationist campaign against the Palestinian people”.
What’s this?
Her vote on Greene’s amendment
She voted against the overall bill.
Ok? Nobody is talking about the bill not sure why you keep bringing up this strawman.
Why did AOC vote against Greene’s amendement?
Ok? Nobody is talking about the bill
What was the amendment to?
not sure why you keep bringing up this strawman.
I know why you keep ignoring that she voted against the bill.
The amendment was to cut $500m in interceptors to Israel from the bill
I know why you keep ignoring that she voted against the bill.
Because AOC specifically said she wants to keep the interceptors on the bill after she voted against the amendment.

Vandalizing AOC’s office: 1
Fielding anything resembling a candidate or practical solution: 0
I just checked and Summer Lee and Al Green’s office, who voted yes on blocking missiles for Israel, were not vandalized.
