Vietnam has build working towards some serious transit upgrades lately. The HSR line between the major cities, and starting to ban gas powered vehicles on a very accelerated time scale both show a nation wanting to modernize and build needed resources for their people.
France and Vietnam relations have come a long way since the 1960’s… building relationships and resources is good work.
Bad things happened the last time France got interested in Vietnam
France doing a decent job building soft power through their railcar industry. I believe French companies already own a significant portion of British Rail. I’d rather that rail networks be publicly owned by the governments that administer the regions they’re in, but I’m also not really against any particular nation encouraging rail expansion elsewhere due to economic interest.
Bombardier is French now, even if you think you are buying Canadian, it’s still French.
More French than the French.
Morocco has French TGV but Saudi Arabia has Spanish AVE. Like with all those huge projects politics play important role when choosing the technology. I think Spain got the contract from Saudis because the ex King was very corrupt and well connected.
