Ever since the election Colbert has seemed as if he is stuck between a rock and a hard place.
He couldn’t morally ignore what was happening but he also had to keep things light and establishment approved. This was obvious when Luigi was big news and Colbert took the violence is always wrong stance.
On the other hand, John Stewart made a neutral joke with a hint of support. Seemed obvious that even John Stewart was being restricted but his star power could almost overcome that.
I think this is good for Steven personally, he can stop pretending he supports the establishment (assuming he doesn’t).
