    Here’s my comment from the other post:

    Short Eared Owls are able to fly tremendous distances, so they can turn up in some very surprising places.

    The coracoid is an important structure that resists the extreme forces applied to the chest while flying. With a damaged coracoid, the chest will compress the lungs and the wing bones will strike the body, so they end up not being able to generate lift.
