This is not Xiaomi’s fault, it’s Google’s. It’s the limitation of the gesture navigation in the older Android versions (Android 10 or so). Nothing Xiaomi can do about it on Android 10, even if they wanted. I’m not sure how much better it is these days, but I’ve heard now it can work with 3rd party launchers to some degree.

      This is not Xiaomi’s fault, it’s Google’s

Gestures worked fine on MIUI 11. In the initial A12 update gestures stopped working, but you could at least circumvent it by using 3rd party gestures app like Edge Gestures. Then, a few months later Xiaomi released the update that killed even app gestures. That’s when I said fuck it, and installed a custom ROM, where gestures work with any launchers.

What’s your experience with full screen gestures and custom launchers, Pixel owners?

Does swiping up to go home collapse the app screen into the app icon? Or does it vanish to nowhere in the middle of the screen?

With smart launcher it disappears into the center. I think you can fix this for lawnchair by using the quickswitch magisk module, but that requires root.

Have you tried using Android 10 with gesture navigation and 3rd party launchers before? Maybe you just never had this combination of factors. It happens for all smartphone brands, it’s a problem with Android 10 itself.

Buddy, the point being made here is specifically Android 10. I just made a comment on your thread about this exact thing.

At one point in time there was a version of Android that introduced gestures and it broke third party launchers that have gesture options themselves. People were freaking out because they thought Google was going to make Android natively kill 3rd party launchers.

In truth it was a bug with gestures and 3rd party launchers. It had to do with the fact that gestures were new and that version of Androids gestures didn’t disable or have issues with 3rd party gestures interfering with one another.

I get your frustration a lot of people at the time understood your frustration and were worried but newer versions of Android no longer have this issue because the third party launchers can take advantage of the built in 1st party gestures and add their own additional gestures.

Also, Xiaomi is not exactly what I would call an LTS phone if you want longer service for support Pixel and Galaxy (especially Galaxy) are about as good as it gets on Android.

You can use MIUI by Xiaomi.eu. It’s a custom rom based on Chinese MIUI.

Chinese MIUI has more features than the other regional roms. Everytime they showcase a new MIUI version most of the features only arrive to the Chinese rom, all other regions get just basic stuff.

I’m done with Xiaomi. Good hardware but very intrusive software. Just to change the ringtone or the notification sound I have to accept being spied by them. Had to use a 3rd party software to change these. Wallpapers? Nah, accept the terms to be spied on as you use our theme software. I’m done, writing this on a Redmi Note 11 but already ordered a Moto G23 to replace it. Love the screen of the Note 11 but tired of the bullshit push to relinquish control of the device.

Will try the Pixel Experience ROM after I transfer everything to the new phone but I need banking apps working, not much hopeful.

Whem the Fairphone 5 comes out I will buy one. Decided it is time to invest on fair devices.

LineageOS solved this issue for me.

It’s a little outdated model, but on late 2022 I got a brand new Redmi Note 9 Pro (2020) just so I could have a Xiaomi without MIUI cancer. I’m using it right now.

The problem is finding an offically supported model, otherwise you rely on people who post their custom LineageOS roms on forums.

Same. On X3 Pro running CrDroid. The lroblem I face is that battery backup is not that good, the launcher’s recent menu is buggy sometimes, and gestures are not great as MIUi. (Like can’t swipe back on Gbaord to close it.)

Otherwise a lot better in every aspect than MIUi. No junk of apps and lot better privacy.

As someone who switched from my beloved huawei p30 to a xiaomi 12, I regret my choice so much. Sure, huawei isn’t very open with rooting and bootloaders etc either, but installing a goddamn apk app didn’t take a whole extra minute becuase xiaomi wants me to be absolutely sure that I trust the maker and locks me out of clicking ‘I’m sure’ for 10s. Nor did it constantly try to turn off developer mode. Or turn off my ui customizations that run in the bg. Grrr

Not sure of what brand I’m gonna try next, might try the now independent Honor, or maybe give up and go with samsung, but my next phone will definitely not be a xiaomi

I buy Xiaomi phones purely for the absurd hardware/price quality ratio. Been using the brand since 2015 and I absolutely love it.

However, their software do leave a lot to be desired. Custom roms is what make Xiaomi phones great. I’m so happy with my brand new Poco F5.

That is exactly why I switched to a custom rom (plus the fact that on top of these issues, I was stuck on an outdated version of the OS because my carrier wanted to include it’s crappy apps no one ever used). Imo Xiaomi phones are very good on the hardware side, but the software is horrible to use when you’re used to a near-AOSP OS.

Download Magisk from github and just flash it like you did your custom rom. You need to redo this after each rom update/reflashing your recovery. Afterwards open the Magisk app and follow the onscreen instructions (install via root)

Although this method of installing Magisk is not recommended anymore it’s the only one that worked for me. Following the regular instructions always ends in a bootloop/non responsive display for me

This isn’t the default for others. In OneUI, for example, you can use a combination of both, even with 3rd party launchers. One-handed mode+, for example, is awesome for gestures.

Not the same person but I’m using Nova on my pixel, for starters icon pack support is a must to me, and then Nova lets me tweak things on a granular level, so I end up with much cleaner looking launcher, no search bar, no scrolling bar, customizable background color, text color etc and that’s just a few advantages it offers.
