One of the saddest things you learn is that, even for the most wholesome and reasonable political ideology (ie definitely not tankies or Zionists), people remain the same. They may have less vile values and policies, but ultimately, the average follower of the ideology remains every bit as dumb as their vile peers.
It’s why combating the spread of misinformation in the first place is so important. It will not be investigated and rejected on its own by most people, even people who have otherwise good views.
I don’t think we’re condemned to that by some inherent piece of the human condition. But, uh, it would take a much more rigorous rework of the education system to fight it, so… we’re probably stuck with it for the duration of our lifetimes, at the very least.
