She’s Filipino by birth and culture, dad was Japanese. She won’t say a single word against the Japanese unless you really drill into her opinions, simply won’t talk about it. But JFC does she hate them, deep down. It’s funny that her sisters live in Japan ATM. :) They don’t seem to care.

But I get it, deep down. Japan raped her country in WWII, literally and figuratively, and while she’s ignorant of modern Western politics, she know plenty about the Japanese using babies for bayonet practice. Have to admit, I wondered if her dad raped her mom.

My father died of mesothelioma sucking down asbestos while fighting in the Pacific Theatre. Watched him suffer to death for two years as a child. You might think I would hold a grudge. I do not, history to me.

All that to say, I don’t blame her and I’m fine with her prejudice. OTOH, she refuses to do cute shit like wear a kimono or chops sticks in her hair. Fuck me, I signed up for an Asian chick! (That is an attempt at humor for the autistic among you.)

      Huh. That’s pretty much Europe but with other names. SIL is 50% Filipino and a huge weeb, and I know that the Japanese are very racist, I hope she does too because she wants to do a one month Japan trip in the near future.

      But to get back to the Europe part: Western Europeans are racist towards Eastern Europeans. You know, Schrödinger‘s foreigners: they steal our jobs and they don’t work and live off the social system. If you’re like Spanish or British and go to Germany, people treat you differently than if you were Albanian or polish. There’s exceptions like Greeks, and as of right now, racism all over Europe shifts away from Europeans and towards refugees.

      All questions I have. She’s very closed mouth and I don’t wish to pry on what is obviously a touchy subject.

      In any case, it has zero effect in the real world. She would never breathe a word of hate or act racist towards a Japanese person. (And they don’t really exist around here.)

      She doesn’t find anything culturally Japanese cute. Took me a bit to clue in! She has a nice kimono back home, can’t get her to have her kids send it over. 🤷🏻

      No idea about traditional Filipino clothing. That’s a damned fine idea! As of now, women over there are stuck in the 80s, which is cute in itself. I thought it was just her that wore designer clothes with giant branding. Nope. She had me watch some videos to see what people were like over there. ALL the girls sporting giant GUESS logos.

    Fucking stupid. I’m an American and have no problems with Germany/Germans or Japan/Japanese folks. I don’t give a shit that they did to Americans decades ago—war is hell. Like what a stupid fucking reason to hate a country. Were you around in WWII? No, so shut the fuck up.
