Hoo are you looking at? Trooper Landers was in Eagle recently when he learned of an owl with an injured wing. He was able to bring the owl to Tok, and the next day, Bird Treatment & Learning Center took the owl back to Anchorage for care.
I never heard of Eagle or Tok, so I looked it up, and it seems like one heck of a drive!
I knew Alaska was the biggest state and all, but it’s hard to grasp what that means. I do know how far I can get in 4.5 hours though. Alaska is indeed a big place!
Anchorage is another 5.5 hours, so people hauled this little one 9 hours to get patched up. The comment section was a real mix of opinions on troopers, but this was something nice they didn’t have to do. I’m glad this trooper understands the superb-ness of these amazing birds!
I dunno, the owl has a pretty innocent looking face to me, but it might just be because he got caught. 😁
As to the trooper, I don’t post too many cop rescues as most stories are pretty mundane and don’t have a lot of details to the animals themselves or their recovery, but also to avoid going down this road every time.
I don’t have any more details to his actions, and I can appreciate the skepticism to an extent, but I also think even some legit bad actors are still capable of display acts of personal virtue if it’s something they care about. Based on what we do know about Trooper Landers, he probably spent 10-12 hours of time taking care of this hurt little owl and getting it to help. That may just be the equivalent of a trip to the grocery store in this part of the world,. I can’t say, but it seems a significant effort that not everyone would give to a selfless thing. I think this particular set of actions is worthy of acknowledgement, whether this is symbolic of what he’s like the rest of the time. We know as much about his personal life as we do any of the rescuers we highlight here, or that I know of your lives or you all know of mine.
There are plenty of cops we do have conclusive proof of malicious intent, and those people do deserve whatever feelings we wish to toss back at them in return.
Ok, off the soap box now. 😇
I just want to keep this a chill and positive space is all I’m really getting at.
I’m with ya.
A cop who saves an owl has done a good thing. We don’t need to solve entire societies today.
And ten hours of driving just for this little bird is pretty awesome.
Exactly. I’m not against the thought of the US and a lot of places needing major police reform, but this guy did a massive good deed for the cause this community champions.
And if someone can do one good deed, they can do more, and we should support that. I know I’ve done a lot I’m not proud of, but I try to do better now.
