NuTrek is a term that is commonly used in a derogatory fashion about anything Star Trek made after the last Kelvin movie. Often while saying at the same time that it is either “Bad Star Trek” or the typical whiny gatekeeping nonsense of “It’s not Real Trek/Doesn’t understand Trek”, as if they somehow are the only ones who do.

Star Trek fans have a habit of screeching at the top of their lungs whenever anything new is added before gradually calming down and accepting it. People lost their mind over TNG, over DS9, over VOY, over ENT and over the Kelvin movies and now even the Kelvin movies are being looked back on more fondly.

Protip: If anyone ever dismisses the entirety of Newer Trek like this user just did? You can pretty safely dismiss them yourself because they just threw out 5 entire shows (and maybe 4 movies) while generalizing them all.

Also dude is just straight up arguing that Rick Berman, the guy who hated a woman so much the only way he’d allow her to continue being on the show was if he got to canonically write in that her original character was raped to death is “a lesser evil” because he doesn’t like the new shows.

Just let that sink in. The people who blindly hate the newer Trek shows are so psychotically unhinged they’re now like “Yeah, but the dude who abused everyone who worked for him is a lesser evil because I don’t like the new shows.”

I have less than zero respect for these people.

I appreciate your thoughtful and detailed response.
I was doing the "why grandpa, what do you mean by “those people” thing to bait them into some self-reflection, but I’m not sure it would have made a difference anyway.

It never does. Only time seems to make any difference. They seem to forget why they hated it, watch it and get over it going “Huh this isn’t as bad as I remember” and then pretend they never acted like it in the first place.

Give it 10 years and people will be offering me money for my Stamets username on like… everything.
