    I mean to be communist (as in Marxist-Leninist) you have to believe in the ideology that produced the system whose supporters we call tankies. It’s not hard to see the correlation I’d say.

      The tankies are the radical branch, it’s like saying that to be a capitalist you need to embrace fascism.

        No amount of socialism is going to make one support Chinese tanks rolling over protesters in Tiananmen, so I’d say that rather than being radical they’re just a cult. Stalin wasn’t a radical socialist; he was a power-hungry dictator who coopted socialist rhetoric. I mean what set of beliefs would you even call the non-radical version of tankiesm?
