you’re not American either, you’re a sock puppet for oligarchs.
you’re not American either, you’re a sock puppet for oligarchs.
you’re absolutely right. it would take 20+ yrs of back-to-back Democratic control to undo what has done in the first 2 Trump terms… that isn’t happening… besides, will there even be “terms” anymore when the oligarchs have fully captured our politicians?
executive power has been expanded enormously by both parties in terms of precedent (what they can get away with) and cultural expectation (what avg Americans assume he’s allowed to do).
I think our best and least likely hope is that some FDR like figure rises on a massive wave of popular sentiment, and he then wields the enormous unchecked power of the executive to redistribute power back to the people. it happened before, but it took a great recession, mass migrations, violent clashes, and widespread suffering before Americans got angry enough to scare the establishment into allowing FDR to take control.
meh. you’re not a psycho.
compassion is a muscle. if you’ve never spent much time, dedication, or effort working on empathizing with other people you won’t be good at it (or even think about it).
we just so happen to live in society where those skills are not as rewarded compared to being self centered, independent, and ruthless. conditions maketh the man. hang out with someone who’s got a lot of compassion and concern for the feelings of others and you’ll quickly realize what you thought was your personality is actually a learned maladaptive response to living in a cruel and apathetic world.
yep, techno colonialism. Thiel, who single handedly orchestrated JD Vance’s rise to power, and many other psychopath monarchist billionaires have salivated over a ‘Galts Gulch’ style ancap utopia for quite a while. they’re pubescent Randroids who never had to grow up and develop a world view compatible with other actual human beings. immature parasite fucktards.
Nazis are fucking cowards. challenge them even the slightest and they crumple.
unlike fascists, we don’t all agree we need to “get rid of” our political opponents but I do take your point. i would say they quickly become irrelevant once a movement latches on and changes the prevailing political winds. politicians, especially Dems, are cowards. they are like a flag in the wind. they will go wherever the fuck the wind tells them. and we, collectively, make the wind.
move on with your life, there’s way bigger battles to fight than “at some point in the past, a Nazi once stood on this patch of Earth… therefore anyone who stands on it becomes a Nazi”. this is not the hill to die on you think it is.
which website a person casually clicks a link to doesn’t irrevocably and eternally condemn (or purify) their personal beliefs and immortal soul. it’s. just. a. website. and they took the Nazi shit down already. JFC.
just be supportive (irl or online) of the people in your life that need the most help. keep a tight circle. as your capabilities permit, slowly grow that circle outwards to include more activities or messages. resistance movements are not made overnight.
the solution is not going to come in the form of a singular day of resistance, no matter what people tell you. even a worldwide general strike executed flawlessly will not upend the historical and cultural foundations that got us where we are today. we need a MOVEMENT. movements are made of people, like you and me.
just by showing support, and talking candidly with others helps remind each other other that we have POWER when we all align our efforts.
it’s true. we’re seeing a lot of unconventional approaches to resistance nowadays. some might not work, some might only make a dent, some might help build solidarity but have little material effects. but something else is also true: no one, not the smartest of the smarty-pants historian economist or terminally online leftist post capitalist actually - KNOWS - the specific set of steps that will be sufficient to change things forever.
all we can do is support people who are resisting in every way possible. sharing and reposting, donating money, signing petitions, calling reps, mobilizing unions, even more aggressive tactics (or giving aid to those who put themselves at risk directly).
just help each other as hard as you can, build strong relationships because look around - we literally only have each other to count on right now. be a reliable and supportive ally and it will make a difference.
Colby Jack… tell me you’re indecisive without telling me you’re indecisive.
agreed. that’s literally their job. oppose the other party by whatever means at their disposal. use the press, support union actions, so many ideas. be bold be creative.
they at least should stop pretending that “playing by the rules” and “trusting the system” is an appropriate response to illegal orders, illegal firings, violations of constitutional doctrine, and open defiance of judicial and legislative oversight. relevant video from InnuendoStudio, sadly aged like wine
thank god! the websites!
I was really worried there for a second!
(meanwhile at Guantanamo, sanctuary cities, the southern border, EPA, USDA, TSA, USAID, climate summit, CFPB, and every major research and academic institution…???)
collapse is almost definitely coming. I for one accept it though and believe there’s a low probability of a silver lining outcome for a small number of survivors to build something new after society as we know it comes crashing down.
post collapse Earth will be irrevocably different from the one we inhabit today, but it won’t be all bad. i suspect not everyone will suffer the same fate from war, famine, or catastrophes. humans inhabit every corner and valley of this immense planet and not every place will be made uninhabitable for everyone, simultaneously.
those who decouple from capitalism now and work towards a different kind of society, might fare better. it will be challenging, brutal, and at times exhausting for sure. but at least the orphan crushing machine we know today will finally come to a grinding stop.
bingo. to those accustomed to a lifetime of privilege, equality feels like oppression.
that’s kind of incredible.
you have to crawl before you can walk.
the point isn’t to impact companies… no one’s expecting a single day boycott to end capitalism. that’s ridiculous.
small events leading up to bigger ones is part of growing a movement, of testing how far you can count on people to support your cause. these types of actions are test runs to see if people have any capacity whatsoever for organizing and acting together in unison.
some leftists (other commenters in this thread who were gatekeeping) are too smart for their own good, and think that we can get millions to go on a general strike overnight or enact some dramatic v for vendetta moment. turns out, deeply individualist Americans conditioned by a lifetime of isolation and atomized existence need a little gradual coaxing sometimes.
may I kindly suggest just putting a piece of electrical tape over the T insignia or perhaps an easily removable vinyl sticker indicating you don’t support Nazis?
it’s not your fault your car was made by a company owned by a Nazi… but people are understandably pretty fucking upset to have a Nazi running the country. caveat emptor.
I’m hoping that too. either way, I’m not advocating hopelessness or doomerism. I’ll be working harder than ever this year to decouple my life from corporations and govt reliance. community building, strengthening friendships, helping others when I can. it’s going to be a long road ahead and we won’t survive as isolated individuals.
I don’t think you realize just how long it takes to hire federal employees, or reconstitute entire agencies (like CFPB).
tens of thousands of people forced out, thousands of research grants and projects canceled, hundreds of programs stifled…
this is the end of the federal government as we know it, and it will take a generation (20+ yrs) of back to back Democrat administrations to rebuild it. that’s not going to happen.
the oligarchs won dude. kids growing up today will never know how much has been lost. the corporate media will make sure all they know is ‘we’ve always been at war with eastasia’’
keep going!
