Don’t wanna throw cold water on what should be a celebration, but are these all distinct active users? I have separate accounts on Lemmy, PixelFed, Mastodon, and Loops–do I still count as one active user, or am I four? If the latter, I think it’s plenty likely that others like me have simply gotten used to the first fedi platform they chose and are branching out as they learn about more. Maybe doesn’t account for all the growth, but would explain away some of the meteoric rise.

Barnetts Mega Sour Fizz Bombs are insanely sour for about a minute. We love sour candy in our house, but we can only have two a day for the damage they do. They can be tough to find if avoiding Amazon, we have to get them from a British imports store a few cities over.

Freeze-dried sour Skittles are also excellent. They’ll be gone pretty fast

My book club is going to discuss Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte this week. I finished pretty early, so I’ve been listening to The Gone World by Tom Sweterlitsch. It’s also standalone sci-fi, though it’s doing the thing I don’t so much like where it oversimplifies some of its key tech. The prologue was fantastic!

It’s my first Pixel, I switched from a Samsung Note 20 Ultra 5G, and there have been some transition aches. I ran into the Android Auto issue this week where the phone would connect to my car for a few seconds then disconnect for a minute repeatedly, and I miss Smart Lock options like keeping my phone unlocked while on home Wi-Fi or while connected to a trusted device. Any Pixel vets know of a similar function on the device? (Edit: Found it! They changed the feature name to Extend Unlock and hid it in the privacy settings.)

Echoing another comment, the phone runs very cool and the camera is excellent. The battery lasts about as long as the Note 20 Ultra’s under heavy use: if I’m running ReVanced or Twitch all day, it needs a charge around dinner time. I haven’t yet adjusted to using the assistant (never touched Bixby on the old phone, either) so I can’t speak to all the AI features added in.

Overall, felt some buyer’s remorse early on, but I think I’ll come to appreciate the Pixel 8 Pro as I get used to it and optimize it for my usage.
