I very much agree, the number of guns per licence in and of itself is not a concern. That said, I still believe that it’s a valuable statistic to track.

Legally owned/originally acquired guns are the ones that contribute to the grey-market, obviously, and acknowledging that the supply for that market is likely to grow is important to bare in mind.

I absolutely agree with the last statement as well, greater restrictions around semi-automatic and faster firing weapons has had the greatest impact on safety, regardless of the increase in guns per person.

I would love to see similar projects rolled out globally. I don’t think we quite understand how much data can be and is being collected by our local agencies, and how much that puts us at risk.

My mother used gas stove tops her whole life. My dad has quite a bit of climate concern, and he convinced her to go to electric induction (after many years of argument, mind you).

3 years later, and neither of them would ever cook on gas again. Mum cannot believe how truly efficient electric induction heating is, and combined with their new solar panels, the only bill they’ve had to maintain since 2023 is the internet.

I think in Australia, there’s a bit of a stigma against electric cooking, because in the 70s, 80s, electric cooking was achieved with really slow, inefficient resistance coils. I would submit that there will be an even greater acceptance of electric cooking once the older generation get the opportunity to try induction.

On the Sydney waterway, the River class and Parramatta River class currently run on Scania diesel motors. However, they’ve been designed specifically with retrofitting battery-electric systems. I am very hopeful that as the motors reach the end of their service life in the next couple of years that they make the leap to electric.

I worry that the benefits of electric cars as a whole are being undercut by the size of new ones. I’m not saying SUVs don’t have a place, I am saying that perhaps a standard-sized sedan is potentially more comfortable, more energy efficient, and lighter. This is a criticism of the car industry at the moment as a whole, but I do not understand this obsession with big, high cars.
