TheAnonymouseJoker from Lemmy.ml / Reddit
I am effectively deleting my account from Lemmy.world after seeing their support for Israel/Zionism. Cloudflare integration was bad enough for me. I do not support (neo/proto)fascist instances.
The fact that Lemmy is being hacked is a sign Lemmy is becoming big. This is a great thing, but mass adoption should still be refrained from, as we have seen it with reddit and Big Tech platforms.
Facebook, Google, Apple, Zoom and others’ chat platforms are made out of defederated XMPP, being the reason XMPP, a federated chat protocol itself, has never become popular in the past 20 years.
Embrace, Extend, Extinguish is a tactic Western capitalist tech companies use to exploit open source technologies for profits and control over society.
Fediverse’s strength is being able to federate AND defederate as a choice, and the hierarchy flattens down from centralised Big Tech networks enough to the point the instances with big community hold power. EEE cannot do much or any damage, and Meta’s foot in the door can be chopped away by instances easily.
The content they will bring is Facebook tier memes and mostly Instagram women audience from what I can see from Threads’ adopters. Since Threads has NSFW and brand/influencer promotion prohibited, its adoption in itself is not just questionable, but in my POV, an experiment by Facebook to gauge the reaction of Fediverse’s current users towards them.
I have seen plenty apologists for Facebook/Twitter federation on Lemmy instances. Do not underestimate the enemy.
I feel the same. Lemmy.world has demonstrated itself as a popular Lemmy instance, like a huge playground, but Facebook instances must be given the boot. I am okay with seeing myself out of here, if it does not happen. Being on lemmy.ml for years, I will have zero issues doing that.
