It has nothing at all to do with religion, not even a little. Without religion, they find a different excuse to do exactly the same thing with no change.

I always thought the metaphor was the easy and fun “it’s all down hill from here” vs the return of the inevitable uphill slog… so the opposite of what OP drew.

They are in low orbit and meant to de-orbit at eol. It is better they do that than stay up there really. The article throws out a lot of fear mongering language then at least it follows up with the reasons it isn’t a problem mostly. Except they make it sound like these sattelites are hitting the ground , but really just some kind of space debree hits the ground. These are made to burn up and only one piece has ever been proven to hit the ground. That does mean it’s possible, but still unlikely to be a problem.

physics dictates that the first 4 bites of a sandwich will push all the toppings at least 1 inch out the front. The temptation to then turn the sandwich around and bite that bit that is sticking out and work from that end will be irresistable. Therefore the last bite will only have mayonaise, mustard and vinegar.

Well, I think you’re wrong about the soil being very special, but my plan was a bad one for a completely different reason. I was supposing they were mostly after the people and the wealth that left China when Tiwan broke away from China during the civil war and many of the richer people moved there, sort of like when all the rich people left Cuba to live in Miami when the communists took over there.

The bigger reason not to abandon Taiwan is that it is a strategic point where china can menace the pacific islands and Guam a little easier. As it is they are pushing around the Philippine fishermen and encroaching into their area, taking over reefs that would belong to the Philippines or other countries and trying to make little base islands and Taiwan would be a better staging area.

I sort of wonder how in half of AI news reporting AI is useless and failing to perform at all, making all the tasks it was supposed to fix just take longer. And in the other half of AI news reporting, AI is killing jobs because it is decreasing task load by so much that hiring is stalled… Both can be true in isolated cases, but only one of those can be true in a statistically significant way.

How big is Taiwan? The US should give Taiwan a section of California about that big to be the new Taiwan. Then empty the country out, burn everything and salt the fields and give the useless island to China.
