Eh, I’ve been using a couple (a local exit for targeted searches and a remote one for general usage) of gluetun containers for ages. Hook apps to the proxy server or tun (and containers to the relevant network). Does the same, more versatile, likely more secure, lot of eyes on gluetun. FoxyProxy lets me set rules based choices in firefox, or manually override in a couple clicks. Still, good for them and the untechnical, I guess.

You seem to be assuming that the volume is immediately replaced by the external atmosphere, which I doubt is valid, more likely that the volume of the person would decrease, at least temporarily. The weight of 1 Liter (assuming a massive fart) of air is 1.275g according to wolfram, so, using your density numbers above, 1.275 * 1.06/1.2 = 1.126g lighter. Measurable with a really good scale, if the 90ml fart volume is realistic (has to be more realistic I guess), that’s ~.1g,

Think of yourself as a hot air balloon with a very tiny chamber, and when you release a 90 milliliter fart, you lose a little buoyancy and sink a little. You get heavier when you fart.

Old chains stretch, the chain meter just measures the stretch. You just need to find the size of a chain meter. IIRC there’s specifications for KMC/shimano chains somewhere, I think it varies by gear count as well (so some chain meters may not work for some chains). Been a while since I did it.

Cool, you said ‘old Win 11 machine’, I assumed. It’s really not intensive, never know it’s there. I guess it’s a VPN, a few curls, some stats and a light webserver ?

I have a similar setup on my laptop, a docker searxng (well podman rootless, but near enough) locked into a gluetun instance. Works fine, simple to set up, sucks less than any individual search engine and is usefully configurable, but I’m on linux, I expect there’s more pain for windows (linux might be a use for the spare computer…). It’s not resource intensive. Gluetun let’s you expose a local port for searxng and you just point your browser at https://192.168.x.x:8192 or whatever, no need to worry about exit IP. Gluetun is well used and has a focus on avoiding leaks, plenty of eyes on the code, I’ve never had any problems.

You can wireguard (or tailscale or whatever) into your home network and use it on your phone too. Spin up a pihole for adblock while you’re at it. I say go for it…

Flip up ones, as long as you’re not vain (which you aren’t with clipons anyway), solve this problem nicely. Go for polarized, oleophobic too…

I’m enjoying Zen, really gets out of your way nicely. Does a bunch of things I used to hack in userChrome.css better, still reasonably secure as best I can tell, it’s not librewolf but it’s still firefox so I add back the normal privacy add-ons, about:settings etc, but the UX uplift is worth it.

That said, without the firefox base we’re all fucked, so this, and their general culture, is really quite disturbing.
