I looked at them too. I opted for Heliboard because FOTO’s management made the news last year or maybe '24. I don’t remember the details but it was enough to overcome the Google hurdle for me.

I like Heliboard for the swiping aspect also. I just want to add that to enable it I had to download the Google swipe engine and add it after installing the app. I’m not the biggest idiot on this planet and I managed. So it’s doable. Works with German too.

One thing that what they call agenetic AI will undermine might be a lot of the subscription based biggies of the industry. I’m thinking about Adobe in particular. They charge a monthly premium for having user-friendly, low learning curve software that often has become industry standard. But there are open source alternatives for many of their big hitters (Inkscape, GIMP, etc.). If the agenetic model needs a tool to design a logo or expand an image - and you probably already pay for the privilege of using the agent model - this may prove to be a boon to the open source development of these intermediary software tools. Because the relative difficulty to use them as we hear from Adobe heads all the time won’t matter to the computer. And they are free (with a request to donate). So a chunk of interest and probably money and effort will move from those subscription services to open source alternatives and their development. This is just one positive effect so-called AI could have for some open source projects.

Sadly, at the same time we squander resources and kill polar bears.

I mean, this is all a matter of opinion. They promised stuff they couldn’t do - like everybody else. They gave us a revolving door of PMs - like the LDP, the party that won all the other elections, does as well. I think what broke their back was having to deal with a big earthquake, massive tsunami, and exploding nuclear reactors. The LDP can consider itself lucky they weren’t in charge then so the stink of failure to deal with an impossible crisis didn’t attach to them. They really aren’t the more capable politicians.

There is enough crime happening on either side of this 15-year divide to care about.

I think you can change the Klingon makeup as much as you want. Have one guy day Qapla and we’re golden. Recognizable enough. This Cardassian getup was too far from the one we’re used to - definitely what I was used to. Even the Fed president lady in Disco looked more Cardassian and she was only a quarter Cardassian. They went too far with the redesign. Which is sad because the choice of species wasn’t random.

I was, initially, because I’m a fan, mad when it was revealed that Tawny Newsome’s character was supposed to be Dax. I later learned she was also supposed to be Cardassisn, which I totally missed as well. But I was mad in a “here we go again, new writers pulverize the canon of old, Trill synbionts can live a gazillion years now” way. But when I put the phone down before firing off a number of senseless hot take posts, I came to the conclusion that the Burn would have probably necessitated a system of hibernation or cryo storage for symbionts in need of a new host but unable to get back to Trill. In my head canon, the Dax symbiont was on ice for a couple of centuries.

I like the idea of the symbionts having an influence over their life span. And that Dax would cling to life no matter what for the off chance to meet The Sisko again makes sense to me too.

We’ll see which theory holds because I’m sure we’ll see Tawny in makeup again somehow.

Many things the internet will tell you exist in Japan are still not the norm around here. I’ve been here a decade and have come across traffic warning signs for deer, cattle, tanuki (raccoon dogs) and in the mountains for bears, never for cats. So these are irregular signs. The one on the left strikes me as one given special dispensation for by the authorities to prevent accidents on a public road, maybe even in just one village that’s overrun with ferrals. The writing underneath just reads look out for animals. The one on the right looks to me like it could just be on private property somewhere.

Compare: In America they have presidents carved into mountains! Factually not incorrect but misleading, as it’s just four of them and they’re all in the same place.

I frankly don’t believe that this guide alone would have solved as many issues for you as it would also cause. What is presented as universal wisdom is never that simple. The “nobody taught you” aspect is not universally true. I counted ten items in the list I was taught in school or by my parents. I’m not the center of the universe but we can extrapolate that some people have been taught some of these things in some setting. So there is already a mistake in the headline.

This “cool guide” is either redundant (letting people exit a place or the elevator first are roughly the same thing) or not specific enough (letting people exit buses and trains etc. before you enter is missing). You should also offer your chair or seat to those who need it more than you (e.g. pregnant, old, or injured people). You don’t have to offer a replacement date if you cancel an appointment if you canceled in the first place because you don’t want to hang out with an asshole. You don’t need to clean up a mess you made while running outside while the house is on fire. There will be instances where you don’t need to return a borrowed item in the same or better condition than when you borrowed it. If I lended you my dirty lawnmower I would not expect you to clean it or sharpen its blades before you returned it. The additional wear and tear is factored in already.

This poster gives the impression to contain simple, universal, virtuous truths. But none of them are always simple or always logical. They are at best a patchy guideline missing even more unarticulated conditions and exceptions that render them useless. And if you aren’t aware of the missing bits, you’ll still have awkward social interactions.

My suspicion is that somebody created a list of things they thought was the epitome of wisdom in general social interactions, in the US and not in a city with public transport options. They possibly used so-called AI to compile this list. It’s even more likely that they used it to design the poster and to draw the little pictures. And then posted it online to be praised for their effort (don’t aura farm ought to be a bullet point on this poster as well). It deserves to be criticized.

It’s not just the SS, the Wehrmacht also “suffered” from having to shoot all these people. Read up on Babij Jar, Ukraine. Even Himmler is on record expressing sympathy for his killers. That’s why the bullet based plan turns into a gas based one. Because it’s “easier” to flip a switch on a room full of people than to shoot naked people to fall on other corpses already in the ditch.

I think what’s standing between us today and the bottom of the genocidal slippery slope is the (relatively) free media. There are too many ways to check up on them today. Commercial satellites, FOIA requests, people with smartphones. If ICE were building a death camp or digging mass graves now, we probably would find out.

So it’s important to look at how CBS gave in and how the pentagon restricts coverage in exchange for accreditation - those are your first dead canaries in the news coalmine. When commercial satellites are suddenly forced to blur or not cover ICE camps …

I would be surprised if they hadn’t killed more people in detention already. The aim of ICE is to be state terror, their people are of questionable character, poorly trained or vetted. A duty of care is probably not first and foremost on their mind. There probably is a way to brush some cases under the carpet. Deaths by “natural causes,” “misplaced” death certificates, “corpses” on repatriation flights. The spotlight of public attention needs to be on these motherfuckers constantly.

No one taught you this? Even if nobody sits you down for a lesson, you are taught by example by the people around you when you grow up.

Also, the tipping and keeping doors open for people behind you are not universally applicable. In large swaths of Asia you’ll be met by ire or confusion respectively. So maybe this is missing a generated image for being culturally sensitive.
