De enige brieven die ik ooit heb verstuurd, waren toen ik nog op de basisschool zat; naar „penvrienden”, zoals het me werd uitgelegd. Eéntje was een Noorse jongen die ook in de klas hier in Nederland kwam. Ik geloof dat ik zonder dat te weten verliefd op hem was (daar was ik te jong voor).

Ik was alleen erg slecht in „penvriendschappen” onderhouden. Na één keer een brief heen en weer, geloofde ik het eigenlijk wel.

No idea why I got a downvote. My point is that these points in games primarily serve to obfuscate the actual price of things. That’s why there’s now legislation to prevent this. From the perspective of the devs (or whoever is responsible here), the points then lose their use, though. Unless they still have some other use.

Is this Fortnite? Can you win these points? Otherwise this legislation sort of defeats the purpose of having these points, I think.

That’s not a bad thing, obviously. I just wonder what they will come with next to obfuscate what you’re actually paying.

In any case, a flag is a symbol representing some abstract concept. If the inhabitants of a city know their city’s flag is a red field with a white tower, it doesn’t matter when they can’t literally discern the white tower on the red flag flying atop city hall. Even without being able to physically see the tower, they can still see it because they know what the white blob is supposed to be.

Beside this, flags are used in many more ways than just from flagpoles. They are used in printing, in digital media, generally as decoration. In all these cases the ‘recognisability from far away’ criterium isn’t (as) relevant.

Het laat mijns inziens vooral ook zien hoe Amerika(- of breder Anglo-)gericht eigenlijk iedereen wel is. Alles uit de Engelstalige wereld moet hier maar geïmporteerd worden, vaak één-op-één. En dat gaat van lullige trends op Tiktok tot dus de moderne uitingen van extreemrechts of überhaupt nationalisme. Je hand op het hart doen bij het volkslied is geen Nederlandse gewoonte, en met al die lullige ongeïnspireerde Engelse tekstjes toon je jezelf juist een onderdeel van de geglobaliseerde wereld.

Hiermee wil ik natuurlijk niet beweren dat het Nederlandse rechtsextremisme puur afkomstig is uit Amerika - er is sprake van kruisbestuiving. Hoewel het me wel verbaasde dat Trump blijkbaar nog nooit van Wilders gehoord had toen Wilders hem bij de Navo-top wilde ontmoeten.

Overigens zijn er genoeg socialisten die de leer aanhangen dat de arbeidersklasse geen vaderland heeft (zoals het ook staat in het Communistisch manifest) ;)

Wat ik dan altijd weer bijzonder vind aan onze ultranationalistische medelanders is dat al hun leuzen in het Engels zijn… Zoals te zien in dit NRC-artikel.

Ik werk nu bij een tijdelijk project op een locatie waar een paar kantoortjes gehuurd worden door het bedrijf. Op deze etage zitten dus ook allerlei andere bedrijfjes die daar kantoortjes hebben gehuurd.

Van één daarvan is één of andere gozer die uit volle borst over de hele afdeling loopt te fluiten als ’ie naar de plee moet.

Eén van mijn collega’s heeft hem „fluitlul” gedoopt, en al snel begon het speculeren of hij oud of jong was, en wat zo iemand eigenlijk bezielt, gevolgd door pogingen iets van hem te zien te krijgen zonder al te achterlijk over te komen.

Het is een jonge gozer met een koptelefoon.

My desktop PC ran Windows 10 and didn’t have the magic Windows 11 chip. I tried to do some easy things to get it to recognise my PC as having that chip anyway, but it didn’t work, and I was a bit afraid it’d run like shit with 11 anyway.

So I just decided to try something different and install Linux. First on an old little laptop I had lying around. I tried Mint first, then OpenSUSE - the first because it was supposed to be easy to newcomers, the latter because it’s German (and I liked the way it felt when I tried it on my laptop).

After trying it for a bit, I just decided I’d install it on my desktop as I didn’t want to use Windows 10 without security updates anyway. I’ve now been using OpenSUSE Leap for about half a year, and I’m quite happy.

Ah, alright then. I thought I could use YaST’s GUI, but then I just need to do it using the terminal.

Isn’t it possible to make a manual snapshot?

Not a literal death threat, but close.

I once told someone screaming at the bus driver to be reasonable. It was a replacement bus service during winter because the aboveground metros couldn’t drive anymore. The buses were loaded with people, and someone apparently felt ill and had to get out of the bus, so people were screaming at the bus driver to stop. We were driving on the highway, though - you can’t just get out there, even if it wasn’t dangerous anyway.

If I remember correctly the bus driver stopped when it was possible and the ill person got off. When I got out at my stop, the person screaming the loudest got off as well, turned to face me and said: ‘I hope you get cancer.’

Hoe dan ook is het vrij transparant wat Wilders doet. Natuurlijk gaat hij niet zeggen dat hij het geweld hartstikke mooi vond, natuurlijk distantieert hij zich ervan - in woord - en vervolgens gaat hij zelf vol in de aanval om juist anderen schuldig te maken.

Maar het gevaarlijkst is de VVD die het spelletje van Wilders meespeelt en dit verhaaltje van hem daarmee nog kracht bijzet.

Het lijkt me echter in mediaal opzicht niet slim je zo te laten kennen - ook niet tegen een journalist, een beroepsgroep waar Wilders toch al een hekel aan heeft. Misschien kan dit nog iets teweegbrengen.

Specifiek wat de media betreft, laat dit artikel van NRC er toch weinig twijfel over bestaan dat het hier ging om rechtsextremisten.

Dat de VVD zo compromisloos richting extreemrechts beweegt, en extreemrechts geweld vergoeilijkt, is wat me nog het meeste zorgen baart, inderdaad. Alles schuift naar rechts, en zo kan extreemrechts steeds weer een stapje verder gaan.
