            Most people that would go apple picking aren’t getting that many, like half a basket, maybe 15-20 pounds at most. It takes like 10 minutes and you’re paying by the pound for what you take home for half the price or less than you would at the store.

            It can be a fun activity for kids, I don’t see what you’re upset about.

          Oh, I didn’t realise people would pay to do it - public fruit trees are fairly common in England. Apples and plums especially, but I’ve picked pears and cherries too, and there are even figs supposedly.

      I’ve never picked apples at an orchard, but I did go to the orchard and gorge myself on apple cider doughnuts, apple cider, and basically half an apple pie. That, I can recommend heartily.

      It is just a fun, meaningful activity you can do outdoors, which you can enjoy afterwards when you eat them directly or make apple sauce/jam/cake/crumble/strudel etc.
