- Hm, seems to be logical. The sound of the whip is more or less a direct translation of the movement it makes in the air. - It is the same for string instruments. The movement of the string looks the same as its waveform. - Analog audio is analogous. 
- Yeah, that makes sense. I guess the difference is that you don’t typically see the shape of a string as it vibrates, as opposed to seeing a whip move. 
 
- Is that a sonomatopoeia?
