IT people need to give up that messiah complex. You’re building tools and things as a service to others the very same way everybody else does: On a minimal budget, good enough that it does the job and if you happen to land a gig where you can let your inner engineer run free you count that as a blessing but in general, don’t be disappointed if that doesn’t happen.
